When Morrissey Hospitality adopted Paycom, the platform itself was not new, but we needed a cohesive strategy to drive adoption, consistency, and day-to-day usability across a diverse, multi-property workforce. Despite years of access to a powerful HR and payroll platform, employee adoption was inconsistent, paper processes persisted, and managers carried unnecessary administrative burdens.
Morrissey Hospitality recognized an opportunity to do more than just “use” Paycom. The goal was to fully leverage the platform as a secure, employee-facing system that improved accuracy, accountability, efficiency, and engagement while reducing manual, administrative work for managers and HR teams and giving them more capacity to focus on their staff and guests.
Turning Software Access Into System Adoption
Before the Paycom optimization effort, many Morrissey properties experienced the same challenges common to legacy hospitality environments. Long-tenured employees resisted new digital tools. Managers lacked the time and training to coach teams through new workflows. Paper payroll processes remained deeply ingrained, even as the organization moved toward digital systems.
Morrissey Hospitality implemented Paycom in 2017, but the question remained: how do we maximize a significant technology investment without disrupting daily operations or creating unnecessary employee dissatisfaction? Morrissey needed a leader who understood both the platform’s full potential and the realities of hospitality teams working on the floor.
With nearly a decade of Paycom experience, HRIS Manager Laura Eckman spearheaded a comprehensive effort to recalibrate how we used, taught, and talked about Paycom across the organization.
A Hands-On, People-First Rollout Strategy
Rather than treating adoption as a one-time, mandatory roll-out, Morrissey Hospitality approached Paycom as an evolving system that required clear expectations, consistent training, and practical incentives for engagement.
The team focused on showing employees how Paycom protected their time and pay. Team members were required to review and approve paychecks before they were finalized, giving them visibility and ownership over payroll accuracy. Employees were trained to manage timecard edits and punch change requests directly, shifting responsibility to the source and reducing downstream management corrections.
Meanwhile, managers needed to recalibrate, too. Expectations around Paycom usage were reset, and workflows were redesigned to remove unnecessary manual steps. The approach was simple: teach the teams how to use the system correctly and effectively once, then let the system do the work.
Paper processes were intentionally eliminated. Payroll documentation, HR files, write-ups, and notes to file were consolidated within Paycom. This digitization effort improved security, consistency, and compliance and removed physical storage and fragmented records across locations.
Measurable Efficiency and Stronger Engagement
The results were both immediate and impactful.
Employee engagement with Paycom reached 98 percent, including adoption among long-tenured team members who were previously disengaged with digital systems. Managers saw a significant reduction in administrative workload as employees took ownership of their own timekeeping and payroll adjustments.
Industry data helped validate the observed impact. A Paycom study estimated that for every individual change an employee makes instead of a manager, organizations save approximately $4.86. In just four days in December 2025, Morrissey Hospitality saved over $5,000 by shifting routine changes to employee self-service.
Beyond the numbers, the optimized Paycom system reinforced a core value: employees work hard for every minute and every dollar they earn. Paycom became a tool that respected that effort by improving accuracy, transparency, and accountability.
By pairing deep platform expertise with thoughtful change management, Morrissey Hospitality transformed Paycom from inherited software into a fully integrated, employee-empowerment system that supports scale, security, and operational efficiency.
